CHARLESTON, S. C. (WCIV) -- Weather didn't deter people from filling the streets of downtown Charleston Monday morning to celebrate the 17th Annual St. Patrick's Day parade on King Street.

The sounds of Irish pipe bands and a little river dancing excited those clad in green.

"I come out every single St. Patrick's Day because I celebrate with the Hibernian Society," said Amy Guess, who attended the parade.

Dozens of floats traveled down King Street in a parade not even the bad weather could stop.

"Not the Irish, this is the kind of weather you see in Ireland anyway so it's great," said Pat Campbell, a local Irishman who attended the event.

At City Hall, Mayor Joe Riley raised Ireland's flag and headed for some corned beef and cabbage.

"That's a good Irish meal," said Riley.

Others said they'll skip the traditional meal and celebrate with some green beer.

"If you see us a little later we probably won't look the same," said Raymond Campbell, who attended the parade for the first time.

However you choose to celebrate, wish for a little Irish luck on a day with a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow.
