ADAMS RUN, S.C. (WCIV) -- A car was found submerged in the waters of the Edisto River Tuesday morning.

Charleston County Sheriff's deputies are on the scene off Penny Creek Landing along with rescue boats and EMS.

The white truck has tinted windows so it is not known if anyone is inside. Around 9 a.m., divers were preparing to enter the water to investigate.

"It is unknown at this time, if the vehicle was just abandoned, stolen, or if it is occupied," said Maj. Eric Watson with the CCSO.

Just before 10:30, divers came out of the water and reported the truck did not have any people inside.

Officials also said the truck was not initially reported as stolen and that the area is commonly used for dumping unwanted vehicles.

Later, CCSO officials said the owner of the vehicle is reporting the car stolen and the incident is still being investigated by CCSO.
