Man sentenced to 18 years in armed robbery case

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) – A man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after a jury found him guilty of committing three armed robberies against truck drivers.

The solicitor's office said Joseph Mack was sentenced to the maximum of 15 years per armed robbery and three years for failing to stop for blue lights.

The robberies happened on Jan. 6, 2013, prosecutors showed. Mack demanded money and personal property before escaping in a pickup truck.

Police caught up to Mack, but he did not stop for the lights and sirens until he crashed into a mobile home. During the chase, Mack threw the stolen goods out of his truck, officials said.

After he was taken into custody, Mack was identified by two of the truck drivers.

"The victims will always be affected by this incident, but we are glad that we were able to take a dangerous man off the streets to give them some peace of mind," said assistant solicitor Colleen Taylor.
