COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The state Commerce Department says an international high voltage cable manufacturing firm and a Virginia peanut processor are putting new facilities in Berkeley and Darlington counties.

Commerce spokeswoman Alison Skipper said Wednesday that Nexans High Voltage USA is investing $85 million in Berkeley County. The facility near Charleston and the Cooper River will employ 200 people and will produce high voltage underground cables. Production is to begin in July.

Birdsong Corp. of Virginia announced it is investing $47 million in a new plant in Darlington County.

The plant will create 55 jobs when it opens in September.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits and a $500,000 rural infrastructure grant for the Birdsong building and site improvements.
