GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) – Officials from the city of Goose Creek broke ground Thursday on the new headquarters for the fire department and a new fire station.

The new headquarters will be located on Button Hall Avenue; the new fire station will be on Old. Mt. Holly Road.

Officials said Thursday they hope to start the project in April and have everything ready to move into by October 2015. The headquarters will be 34,000 square feet and house 10 EMTs and firefighters and 7 administrators. The new fire station will have room for 4 EMTs and firefighters in a 10,000-square-foot space.

Goose Creek's city council awarded the contract to the China Construction Company of Columbia. The project will cost $13.1 million to complete.

It's being funded by the city's tax increment financing program and a revenue bond.
