Myrtle Beach eases rules on military funerals

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Myrtle Beach families whose loved ones were in the military will find it easier to give them 21-gun salutes at military funerals.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports ( ) that city council has decided families no longer need to get special events permits to shoot rifles at funerals.

It's illegal to fire a gun in the city and getting a special events permit meant getting the item on the city council agenda and getting a council vote. Council members agreed this month that funerals cannot wait for such action.

Now 21-gun salutes can be held by giving a 24-hour notice to the police department.
