MT. PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Tony Page, local business owner and brother of the mayor of Mt. Pleasant, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning.

Officials said Page, who was only 57, died of a heart attack.

Page owned Page's Okra Grill, located on Coleman Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant. He managed the restaurant along with his two daughters and son. Wednesday, the restaurant was closed.

"I think it had kind of become the heartbeat where everybody met up and talked," said Clay Maynor about Page's Okra Grill. "Tony was a huge part of that and would go around table to table and speak to everybody. He was kind of the celebrity manager if you will."

In an obituary, Tony was called a "devoted husband, loving father, successful businessman...life long learner, world traveler, Scrabble pro, tennis champ".

"Linda is the mayor of Mount Pleasant, Tony's kind of would have been like the de facto mayor," said Jimmy Craven, who played on a tennis team with Tony. "...Because everybody knows him and was such a positive guy. He lived life to the fullest but not at anyone else's expense."

Craven says Page was much like a Mount Pleasant staple.

"I was brought up in Mount Pleasant my whole life and its hard to think of another guy that was better liked than Tony," Craven said.

Maynor called him a down-to-earth, fun-loving kind of guy.

"He would leave the restaurant and come out in a pair of blue jeans and oxford shirt and just pull his shirt tail out and sneakers on and be ready to play," Maynor said. "He just loved to play the game and would be ready to play at the drop of a hat."

On Wednesday, the family posted a message on Facebook, which read in part:

"Thank you to everyone that has sent a prayer or shared a beautiful memory about our father.... Our father was taken from us too young, and we are heartbroken."

An obituary listed funeral plans. A visitation is set for Friday 6PM until 8PM at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29 at 11:00 AM same location. Interment will be private.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Tony's memory to Windwood Family Services, 4857 Windwood Farm Road, Awendaw, SC 29429 or East Cooper Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 583, Mount Pleasant, SC 29465.
