Charleston C-17s to conduct training exercise

Posted: Updated:

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - As many as nine Air Force C-17 transport aircraft are about to take to the skies over Charleston for training.

Air Force spokesman Staff Sgt. Anthony Hyatt says the aircraft are scheduled to take off Thursday morning. They fly exercises that include air drops, aerial refueling and low-level flights.

Hyatt says the exercise has been coordinated with the Charleston County Aviation Authority and will not delay flights at Charleston International Airport. He says the exercise is regularly scheduled and includes airmen from the 437th Airlift Wing and reservists from the 315th Airlift Wing. The last such large exercise was conducted in April last year.

The maneuvers keep aircrews and ground personnel adept at tasks needed to move large groups at one time, such as a hurricane evacuation.
