COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Attorneys are getting more time to submit briefs to a judge considering a request in the ethics case of House Speaker Bobby Harrell.

Harrell lawyer Bart Daniel says Circuit Judge Casey Manning has extended a deadline to submit briefs to Friday.

Daniel wants Attorney General Alan Wilson removed from the proceedings. Daniel says the prosecutor tried to intimidate the speaker into supporting certain legislation while state police were investigating Harrell's case.

Wilson says he made no threats and only wanted the bill passed.

The State Grand Jury is considering whether the Charleston Republican should be indicted. The South Carolina Policy Council has accused Harrell of using his office to boost his finances and also takes issue with Harrell appointing his brother to a committee that screens judicial candidates.
