CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Coast Guard says they are suspending the search for a possible missing person in the water near Charleston City Marina.

The effort was suspended after about six hours of searching by air and water. USCG officials said they have had no sightings of anyone in distress, and no one has been reported missing or overdue.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard said search teams were called out around 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Several boats were in the water within an hour of the first call. The Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and the Charleston County Rescue Squad are also involved in the search, according to the Coast Guard.

Officials say a security guard was doing rounds and heard a call for help. The guard says he heard the words, 'Hey Hey Hey!"

Search teams have not found anyone. Officials say the search area in the Ashley River is 10 miles-long by one mile wide.

Coast Guard and partner agency rescue crews continue to search for the possible missing person. Anyone with information that may help rescue crews is asked to contact the Sector Charleston command center at 843-740-7050.
