AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - The sister of an Aiken police officer killed in the line of duty two years ago is collecting donations to buy a police dog in her honor.
Virginia Johnson told the Aiken Standard (http://bit.ly/1jPNvDT ) that her sister, Aiken Public Safety Master Cpl. Sandy Rogers loved dogs and would always come by to see the police dogs at the force.
Rogers was shot to death in January 2012 as she investigated a suspicious car. Her killer was sentenced to life in prison.
Johnson is selling t-shirts and vehicle decals with an infinity symbol, Rogers' car number "203" and "We go on" printed on them. She says a new police dog costs about $8,000.
Johnson hopes the new police dog would be named "Sandman," which was her sister's nickname with fellow officers.
