SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- It is a beautiful day for the event that kicks off spring in Summerville. This is an event that brings in more people this weekend in the Lowcountry than any other. The Flowertown festival is in full bloom.

For three days every year, 200,000 people flood the streets; some on a hunt for the perfect gift, others looking for that hard-to-find, but necessary accessory.

"There are so many unique items. It's custom made. You don't find this everywhere," said Ken Battle of the new lawn accessories he and his wife purchased.

But shopping can make you hungry, so the festival has an array of options. Whether you want fried corn dogs, unique pan-fried garlic artichokes or just to keep it simple with grilled chicken kabob, you shouldn't leave with an empty stomach.

"We've been coming here nine years. It's been wonderful," said vendor George Markowicz, the owner of "Artichoke French" from New York.

No matter what visitors take home, they are also helping a local cause. Summerville Family YMCA employees hoped to raise $200,000 by the end of the weekend.

The festival goes through Sunday at 4 p.m. Organizers also have free shuttles this year. For more information on shuttles and parking, visit the Flowertown Festival's website.
