Charleston updating tourism management plan

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston is updating its plan for managing its tourism industry that hosts millions of visitors each year.

The city holds a forum Monday on the city's Tourism Management Plan which was last updated 16 years ago. The plan was originally adopted back in 1978.

The idea behind the plan is to make sure there is a balance between the quality of life for city residents and the city's thriving tourism industry. The committee overseeing the work is headed by Katherine Robinson, the president and CEO of the Historic Charleston Foundation.

The idea behind the Monday meeting is to hear from residents about any needed changes in the plan. The committee is expected to finish its work by the end of the year.
