SC gas prices jump 17 cents in past month

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Gas prices in South Carolina have jumped 17 cents in the past month.

AAA Carolinas says the average price per gallon on Tuesday was $3.36. That's compared to $3.19 a month ago.

Club president and CEO David E. Parsons says gas prices typically go up in the spring because of refinery maintenance projects that lead to tightened supply.

Demand also starts to rise as people take more trips in warmer weather.

Overall, the club expects gas prices for 2014 to be slightly cheaper than 2013. Last year, South Carolina's average gas price was $3.24 a gallon, the cheapest in the country.
