People Against Rape prepares for 40th anniversary

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- The nonprofit organization People Against Rape will be featured Wednesday in the Volunteer 4 Phonebank. The group has been helping victims of sexual violence and abuse for nearly 40 years.

PAR was created in 1974 to serve the tri-county community. They are available 24 hours a day and can help with a wide range of services. Their support system has been crucial in helping many people recover from sexual attacks.

On Wednesday, representatives from PAR will be promoting their Take Back the Night event that's scheduled for April 17 at Marion Square.  Dr. Dean Kilpatrick will be the keynote speaker. Charleston Mayor Joe Riley and police Chief Greg Mullen will also be attending.

The event will celebrate the PAR's 40th anniversary.

If you would like more information about PAR or the Take Back the Night event call into the Phonebank between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The number is 881-5837.

If you can't get to the phone during that time you can also call two other numbers any time of the day. Those numbers are: Dial 2-1-1 or (843) 744-HELP or 1-800-922-2283.
