2 brothers found dead at home in Andrews

Posted: Updated:

ANDREWS, S.C. (WCIV) – Two men were found dead in Williamsburg County Tuesday.

According to Williamsburg County deputies, the two men were found by a family friend when he visited a Cedar Creek Road home. After finding one of the men, the friend left the home and called authorities.

When authorities arrived at the home, they found the two men, later identified as brothers, and learned that the men had been involved in an argument over the weekend. The Williamsburg County Sheriff identified the brothers as Calvin Felder, of Mount Pleasant, and Fredrick Joseph Felder, of Charleston.

Neighbors were shocked to learn of the deaths.

"It was quite shocking when I heard about it because normally something like that don't happen around this part," said Daryel Moyd.

He didn't know what happened across from where he lives on Cedar Creek Road near Andrews.

"I saw the cars. Then I kind of had an idea that something had happened that was very serious," said Moyd.

He saw Williamsburg County Sheriff's Deputies parked outside this secluded plantation on Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say a friend drove to the property and saw a body lying in the long driveway.

"It's just a terrible tragedy for this family to endure," said Williamsburg County Sheriff John Bartell.

He said the friend called authorities. When deputies arrived, they found something else.

"They were surveying the area and about 400-500 yards from where the first body was discovered. Behind some sheds they discovered another body," explained Bartell.

He confirms the victims are brothers: 54-year-old Calvin Felder and 57-year-old Fred Felder. For some reason, they were visiting their mother's house following an argument.

"Having to tell the mother and the family members that the two sons were deceased, it was a tough situation," said Sheriff Bartell.

Investigators won't say how the men died until autopsy results are complete. For now, neighbors like Moyd are concerned.

"You got to be careful, you know, because you don't know what's going to happen. You know, stuff like that happens and all of a sudden you just got to be careful and keep your eyes open," said Moyd.

Both bodies were taken to Medical University Hospital for an autopsy. The victims' mother had just returned home from a vacation when the sheriff told her what had happened.

ABC News 4 has confirmed Calvin Felder was the husband of the principal of Jennie Moore Elementary School is Mount Pleasant.

Williamsburg County's coroner, Harrison McKnights, Calvin Felder died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The cause of death for Fred Felder is still pending.
