Amazon: Here's $5000 to quit working for us

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (WCIV) – Amazon's president and CEO has an offer for the company's warehouse workers: quit and get $5,000.

CEP Jeff Bezos explained the program, called Pay To Quit, in a letter to shareholders this week.

Bezos said the offer is made once a year to all of the company's warehouse workers. Each offer is included in a letter titled "Don't take this offer."

Bezos said the offer is done to "to encourage folks to take a moment and think about what they really want. In the long run, an employee staying somewhere they don't want to be isn't healthy for the employee or the company."

According to reports, only a small percentage of employees take the offer.

"We know that for some of our fulfillment center employees, Amazon will be a career," Bezos wrote. "For others, Amazon might be a stepping stone on the way to a job somewhere else -- a job that may require new skills. If the right training can make the difference, we want to help."
