Cadets make march to Marion Square for Recognition Day

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Freshman cadets at The Citadel made their symbolic march to Marion Square on Saturday as part of Recognition Day.

For the knobs, the march down King Street means the end of their highly regimented lifestyle on the military college's campus. The day started with physical training tests and culminated in the march into downtown Charleston dressed in their dress white uniforms.

Tourists and locals alike lined the streets to watch the cadets march.

Once they arrived at Marion Square, the group took the oath renewal on the Citadel green. Marion Square used to be home to The Citadel before the school moved to its current location.

Marion Square, though, is the college's original parade ground.

The march marks the end of a three-week transition period for the freshmen.
