PORT ROYAL, S.C. (AP) - Officials in Beaufort County are celebrating the opening of the county's new coroner's office.
Coroner Ed Allen is expected to be joined Monday by Port Royal Mayor Samuel Murray and officials from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office in the grand opening festivities.
Beaufort County Council Chairman Paul Sommerville is serving as master of ceremonies, and tours of the building are being offered.
An $850,000 project involved demolition and renovation of the building that once housed Beaufort County Disabilities and Special Needs. Most of the space will be shared by the Coroner's Office and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Victim and Juvenile Services.
