NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Crews from North Charleston police and fire and the Charleston County Bomb Squad responded to a suspicious package Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials, the package was found at the North 52 Square Shopping Center.

Police say a white man was seen putting a suitcase on the ground and then getting back in his car and driving away.

Several nearby businesses in the shopping center have been evacuated, officials said.

The area was cleared after officers opened the suitcase and found a water bottle and several other items.
