COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Prosecutors say the conviction of a Dillon County man whose dogs attacked and killed a 10-year-old boy should be reinstated.

Assistant Attorney General William Blitch told the state Supreme Court on Tuesday that autopsy photos showing the extent of the boy's injuries were necessary to the case against Bentley Collins.

In 2012, the state Court of Appeals overturned Collins' involuntary manslaughter conviction and prison sentence, ruling a judge shouldn't have allowed prosecutors to show pictures of the boy.

The photographs showed how the dogs mauled him so badly his bones were exposed and his ears and nose were eaten.

Collins' attorney told the court Tuesday that the photos were definitely chilling but didn't add anything scientific to the state's case that wasn't already in an autopsy report.
