Drug suspect: ‘I need to stop selling and get a real job’

LADSON, S.C. (WCIV) – A North Charleston man told arresting officers that he needed to quit selling drugs and find a real job after he was caught a second time with drugs. But deputies say he led them on a chase down Highway 78 first.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Antonio Miller was arrested Wednesday and charged with failing to stop for a blue light and trafficking crack and cocaine.

An incident report shows that a deputy tried to stop Miller on Highway 78 after seeing him allegedly weaving in one of the highway's lanes but Miller sped up to try and outrun the officer.

The officer gave chase and Miller led him on a chase through small roads around Ladson where the report states Miller threw something out of his window. The chase ended when Miller drove into a ditch on Wayland Drive, according to the report.

Miller got out of the car and surrendered to the officer.

During a search, the report states the officer found nearly $6,000 in cash on Miller and another $4,400, along with a scale, 14 grams of cocaine, and 28 grams of cocaine base, according to the report.

The drugs were valued at $4,200.

While Miller was waiting to be processed at the county jail, he told the officer: "I need to stop selling and get a real job because this is the second time I have got caught with drugs."

His bond was set at $225,000. His car, a gold 2014 Lexus, was towed to an impound lot.
