Runners race for Riverdogs 'Run Forrest Run 5K'

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – The Riverdogs are playing a doubleheader Saturday night to make up for Friday’s rained out game, but before the first pitch was tossed, runners laced up their shoes for the Run Forrest Run 5K.

The race started in front of The Joe and ended when the runners crossed home plate where they were met by Riverdogs players and Charlie, the team mascot.

“It’s fun and unique and for a great charity,” said special events manager Kristen Wolfe. “The runners get to cross home plate and enjoy a dinner and stay for the games afterwards.”

Proceeds from the race go to the MUSC Storm Eye Institute, the team’s charity partner.

Andrew Littlefield and Jessica Ramsey were the fastest runners in the male and female divisions, respectively, in the 11th Annual “Run, Forrest, Run” 5K at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Saturday afternoon.

Littlefield recorded the best time of all male participants at 16:21 while Ramsey’s time of 19:37 was tops among female competitors. In the Masters category, William Sigman finished with a time of 19:12 to lead the Masters Males division. The Masters Females leader was Shelly Westbury, who clocked in at 22:26.

This is the 11th annual Run Forrest Run 5K.

Sponsors of the “Run, Forrest, Run” 5K included the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Fleet Feet Sports, WTAT Fox 24, Charleston Chiropractic, Orange Theory Fitness, Mary Kay, Charleston Revolution, Raising Cane’s, Kona Ice, and Kitchen Magic of the Lowcountry.
