Simpsonville mayor accused of intimidating judge

Posted: Updated:

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A grand jury has indicted the Simpsonville mayor after investigators said he threatened a municipal court judge.

Prosecutors said 78-year-old Perry Eichor was arrested Tuesday after he was charged with misconduct in office, obstruction of justice and intimidation of a court official.

Arrest warrants released by the State Law Enforcement Division did not detail what type of threats Eichor made against the judge.

Eichor was elected mayor of Simpsonville in December 2011. He spent decades in federal and local law enforcement before becoming a consultant 15 years ago.

It wasn't known if Eichor had a lawyer. Simpsonville City Council meets later Tuesday, and it wasn't known if Eichor would attend the meeting.
