Man arrested, charged with making meth at motel

Posted: Updated:
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- One man has been taken into custody after a meth lab investigation at a North Charleston motel. Police have been looking for the man for nearly a week after a meth lab investigation at a North Charleston home.

According to officials, crews were called to the Relax Inn on Ashley Phosphate Road around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The motel's owner said a man and woman were staying in the room for one night, and she called police. According to the manager, the man was detained by police and the woman was taken to an ambulance. Police say she was taken to Trident Medical Center.

According to a police report, 34-year-old John Eric Phillips was arrested and charged with manufacturing meth. This is the second time this week Phillips has been wanted for manufacturing meth. A police report from six days ago states Phillips was "running around the house shouting and breaking things." One of the occupants of the Otranto Road home said he grabbed a shotgun to protect himself.

Phillips also has another meth-related charge from 2010 in Ravenel, according to records. A state background check shows dozens of charges for breaking into vehicles, criminal sexual assault, as well as guns and drugs violations.
