Police chase ends in apparent suicide for suspect

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A car chase in North Charleston ended for one of the suspects with a gunshot to the head.

According to North Charleston police, officers started chasing a stolen car on Interstate 26 near Ashley Phosphate Road around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Officers say the car crashed and two people got out of the car and ran behind some buildings on Highway 78 near Wanamaker Park. One of the suspects was found a short time later dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said one man was stopped before he left the vehicle.

Nicholas David Lowe was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Shaquille Davon Harris was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of MDMA.

The State Law Enforcement Division and the Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
