Coast Guard rescues missing kayaker

Posted: Updated:
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Coast Guard and several local agencies have located a kayaker who went missing Thursday.

A Coast Guard official said Thursday they were searching for 53-year-old Tim Platt. He was found around 7:50 a.m. by the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.

Officials say he was spotted on Morris Island by the helicopter when they started their air search around 7 a.m.

According to police, Platt left the Isle of Palms Thursday morning headed for Mount Pleasant's Waterfront Park, but his family said he never showed up and they have been unable to reach him.

USCG officials said Pratt told them his paddle broke so he was unable to return to shore.

Platt was picked up and flown to John’s Island airport where he met his family.

Officials said he was examined and released by EMS.
