SC officers, DEA rounding up unwanted meds

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies around South Carolina are planning to round up expired, unused prescription drugs.

The eighth National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day service that's scheduled for Saturday is free, and officers say no questions will be asked.

Local agencies are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration in the effort.

Authorities say prescription drugs that sit unused in home cabinets are susceptible to misuse and abuse. In November, federal officials say South Carolinians turned in more than 5,500 pounds of unwanted or expired medications.
