Bed race benefits Camp Happy Days

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mary Murray Drive was lined with vehicles of an odd sort Sunday and it was all for a good cause.

Beds were souped up to make take laps around Hampton Park in downtown Charleston as part of a Camp Happy Days fundraiser.

There were 18 beds this year of all styles, from the "Duck Dynasty" themed linens to the rolling school bus. The King of Pops and Kickin' Chicken had their own beds, and even a Bed Affleck entered the contest.

"We've got a ton of people. One person is a rider and four people push and they start doing heats," said one of the organizers.

And it's all about raising money for Camp Happy Days. The camp has been around for 32 years. Each year it hosts a summer camp for children battling cancer.

The hope was to raise enough money Sunday to allow 100 kids to go to camp.

This was the fifth annual race.
