NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A sweet surprise is being shipped overseas.

Tricounty Blue Star Mothers and Families have packed over 60 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to send to military members serving abroad.

The group has been busy packing boxes at Deer Park Baptist Church in North Charleston. When they were done, several Navy service members helped load up their trailer.

On Tuesday, the Ladson post office was opened a little early so the 68 boxes could be sent out.

"Our Troops are very important to us," said the group's president Alice Lang. "They need to know that they are not forgotten."

In all, 2,572 pounds of cookies were sent to three US Navy ships, Walter Reed hospital in Maryland and troops stationed in Afghanistan, South Korea, Japan, and  Italy.
