Autism awareness focus of walk in Hampton Park

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Families strolled through Hampton Park in downtown Charleston Saturday morning to raise awareness and money for autism.

The 11th annual Autism walk raises money to help special needs children struggling with autism. There were games, art projects, food vendors, and even special animals along with groups providing information.

Great Clips even showed up to freshen up haircuts while a live band played.

"I just think it's a great way for families and friends to go out and support a cause," said Erin Pruitt, the director of the walk. "One in 68 children are affected, and what's nice about our organization is that all the monies raised here today stay in our local community."

The money will go to scholarships and to assist families of autistic children with treatment and developmental programs.
