CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The State Law Enforcement Division announced their findings in the investigation of an inmate death that occurred in March.

According to an affidavit Michael Bixby, an inmate at the Al Cannon Detention Center, admitted to helping 29-year-old Matthew Lee Glidden commit suicide by strangling him.

Glidden was found "unresponsive and deceased" in his bed located in housing unit A3K on March 24. The statement and arrest warrant gave no indication of how agents knew Glidden wanted to die. SLED spokesman Thom Berry refused to release any additional details because the investigation is still open.Assisted suicide is a felony in South Carolina and carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

Officials said the Glidden was being held on two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor, and two counts of Lewd act on a Child.

Bixby is now charged with assisting a person with committing suicide. He was given a $150,000 bond.
