Hartsville child dies after being left in hot car

Posted: Updated:

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A 13-month-old Hartsville child has died after being left alone in a car for several hours.

Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Bird says the child's father was arrested Thursday night.

Coroner Todd Hardee confirmed the child's death. Authorities say the toddler was left in a car outside of a Hartsville business where the father worked.

The National Weather Service says temperatures in Hartsville got above 90 degrees Thursday.

No names have been released, and an autopsy on the child was scheduled for Friday.
