Hollings to be honored at Galivants Ferry Stump

Posted: Updated:

GALIVANTS FERRY, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Democrats are again gathering in Galivants Ferry to listen to their candidates.

The Galivants Ferry Stump is set for Monday night on the Little Pee Dee River. The families of Joseph Holliday and John Monroe Holliday have hosted the political party every two years since the 1870s.

This year the stump will honor former U.S. Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings, who made his first appearance at the stump 60 years ago to announce his run for lieutenant governor.

The stump opens with bluegrass music and clogging, followed by speeches by local and state Democratic candidates.

All candidates may attend but by stump tradition, only Democrats are allowed to give speeches.
