CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Members of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church awarded a $20,000 grant to Crisis Ministries, choosing the shelter from a pool of 15 local applicants.

The money will go towards the creation of a child development program for homeless children and their families living in Crisis Ministries’ shelters.

“Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church has a long-standing partnership with Crisis Ministries,” said John Hage, Associate Pastor for Missions at MPPC. “Our church feels called to partner with Crisis Ministries to love and support kids and families who are experiencing homelessness."

The program will include health screenings, behavioral therapy for children, and parenting groups.

“Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church is a true partner in our effort to end homelessness for individuals and families in our community," said Stacey Denaux, CEO of Crisis Ministries. "Our supportive programs have historically focused on adults, but it is critical that we address the behavioral and developmental needs of homeless children so we can help them move beyond homelessness. We are grateful that Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church not only recognized this community need, but took action to help solve the problem.”

MPPC officials said after reviewing over 15 applications, the local missions team decided Crisis Ministries best fit the mission of the church.
