CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A former Charleston firefighter, accused in the murder-for-hire plot against his wife, is now facing federal charges.

According to court documents, 41-year-old Edward Clinton Jones faces federal indictments for racketeering and solicitation to commit murder.

Jones was accused of trying to pay an undercover cop $8,000 to kill his wife earlier this year. He was charged at the state level with solicitation to commit murder.

Police said Jones told an informant his wife was going to divorce him and take their four children to Delaware.

Jones served as a Charleston firefighter for 18 years between 1991 and 2009. He worked for the Department during and after the tragic Sofa Super Store fire.

He is scheduled to appear in court on May 20. He has already entered a plea of not guilty and is being represented by Leon Stavrinakis.
