STANLEY Tools created the contest to help people honor their hometown communities while showcasing the increasing number of its hand tools made in the USA using global materials.

According to a 2013 survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Center, when presented with a choice to purchase a product made in the United States or an identical product manufactured abroad, 78 percent of Americans report that they would rather buy the American product.

"This year alone STANLEY Tools is introducing hundreds of new tools, some the world has never seen before," said Jon Michael Adinolfi, Construction and DIY President of Hand Tools & Storage. "We are building millions of tools in the United States with global materials. America is the place where we founded STANLEY in 1843, and ever since we have built our company on the American values of reliability, quality, and innovation. We are continuing that tradition as we design, innovate, and manufacture tools hardworking people all over the world count on day in, day out."

To enter the contest, go to www.STANLEYTools.com/BuildYourAmerica and submit a brief essay of your proposed project on how you would like to honor your community with the $10,000 grand prize such as by improving a park, building, or other location. You can enter the Contest with a smart phone via a QR code at select retail locations where STANLEY hand tools are sold. Look for the specially marked STANLEY Tools packages with the "Made in the USA with Global Materials" logo or specially marked Point-Of-Sale materials with the STANLEY Tools Build Your America logo. The contest will run from May 15, 2014 to December 31, 2014.

In addition to the $10,000 grand prize, STANLEY Tools will donate tools to help support the build for the winning community project. Once you nominate your community, your entry will be judged each month to determine if you have won the monthly prize package of STANLEY hand tools made in the USA with global materials, (each monthly prize package has total approximate retail valued of $250.)

In January 2015 five finalists' projects will be selected from all submissions entered based on relevance to the contest theme, the project's creativity and uniqueness/originality of the project. Each of the five finalists will be required to submit additional details describing how the $10,000 grand prize would be used as well as other documents or information required by STANLEY Tools. In February 2015 STANLEY Tools will determine the Grand Prize winner. The Grand Prize winner will be announced in March 2015 and the community project will be implemented in the Spring or Summer of 2015.

The STANLEY website, Facebook page, and other social media will include interactive sections of how STANLEY Tools has helped build America, a look inside the STANLEY Tools vault, how-to-videos, and more.

STANLEY Tools will also partner with Minor League Baseball and sponsor "STANLEY Build Your America Nights" at games with the New Britain Rock Cats (July 26), Charlotte Knights (August 1), and the Kane County Cougars (August 22). Each game will feature STANLEY Tool giveaways, a flag in the shape of the United States displayed on the field, and other events.
