2 arrested in Orangeburg armed robbery

Posted: Updated:

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two people were arrested after an armed robbery of an Orangeburg business Friday morning.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the T-Mobile store on Saint Matthews Road where three employees were robbed and assaulted at gunpoint, and then bound with duct tape.

Deputies said they were able to track the suspects to a Columbia hotel, and investigators in the area were able to arrest the two suspects less than three hours after the crime.

“These thugs went through a great deal of planning and expensive to come from Columbia to Orangeburg County to steal and abuse law abiding citizens. If they put that much effort into being productive citizens, they wouldn’t be sitting in jail right now," said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

The suspects' names will be released once deputies have warrants. Ravenell said the expected charges are armed robbery, assault, kidnapping, and felony possession of a weapon.
