Sprinkler malfunction halts Big South baseball

Posted: Updated:

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - A malfunctioning sprinkler system flooded the infield at the site of the Big South Conference baseball tournament and has resulted in a change in the schedule.

The malfunctioning system at The Winthrop Ballpark flooded the infield overnight. Officials decided the field was still too wet to play a Wednesday elimination game between third-seeded Campbell and seventh seeded Charleston Southern.

The tournament is expected to continue Thursday with Campbell facing Charleston Southern as the first of four scheduled games. Fifth-seeded Radford and eighth-seeded Gardner-Webb will meet in the second game, followed by second-seeded Winthrop against sixth-seeded Coastal Carolina, and top-seeded Liberty against fourth-seeded High Point in the nightcap.
