Mt. Pleasant police issue reminder on golf cart laws

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- As summer kicks off, Mount Pleasant police are taking the opportunity to remind people of the state's laws on using golf carts.

According to South Carolina law, a person driving a golf cart must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver's license.

Additionally, golf carts can only be used during daylight hours and within four hours of the address on the cart's registration. The cart also has to have a DMV registration certificate and insurance, just like a car.

Police say golf carts can be used on secondary roads when the speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less.
