COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Molly Spearman leads the money race among eight Republicans running to be South Carolina's next superintendent of education.

Pre-election disclosures filed Monday show that Spearman has more than $57,000 still available.

Coming in second among Republicans is former deputy superintendent Meka Childs who has more than $39,000 on hand.

Following close behind with about $37,000 is Sally Atwater, widow of the late Republican strategist Lee Atwater.

Former director of school transformation Montrio Belton has the most money among Democrats with about $29,000 available. State Rep. Jerry Govan of Orangeburg has nearly $20,000 available.

The primaries are June 10.
