Summerville stabbing suspect a 'role model' in one Charlotte group

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCIV) -- The man wanted for stabbing his girlfriend in the chest and fleeing to North Carolina was apparently staying at a halfway house when he was arrested by U.S. Marshals.

According to Charlotte, N.C.-based ABC affiliate WSOC-TV, Lee Bradley was arrested in the parking lot of My Father's Choice thrift shop. The ministry has transitional homes located in Rock Hill for drug addicts and people recently released from prison.

Before his arrest, WSOC learned Bradley worked at the thrift store and the founder, Dr. Denise Smith-Lewis told the news station that he also lived in one of the organization's homes.

Bradley was even featured as a resident and employee of My Father's Choice earlier this month in the Rock Hill Herald.

The Herald reports that Bradley said he was a homeless drug addict who sought the help of the ministry. He reportedly even went searching for area homeless, pointing them to My Father's Choice.

Smith-Lewis described Bradley as a role model to the newspaper.

Smith-Lewis told WSOC reporter Paige Hansen that My Father's Choice does not perform background checks on anyone who is looking for a place to live.

Smith-Lewis told Hansen that Bradley most recently stayed at the halfway home for a month before leaving for the Lowcountry several weeks ago.

Then Bradley reportedly asked to come back to the halfway house.

According to WSOC, Bradley told Smith-Lewis that his girlfriend had been injured by a knife and he needed to return to My Father's Choice. Smith-Lewis said she did not prod for more details.

Smith-Lewis told WSOC she would be reviewing the organizations background check policy, but added officials do report criminal activities if a tenant is suspected of a crime.
