ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCIV) – An Orangeburg woman was arrested this week after deputies there say she beat her child.

According to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, Kendra Breanna Rush was charged with cruelty to children after a Department of Social Services employee contacted deputies regarding the welfare of a child as a result of a surprise home visit.

Ravenell said the DSS case worker saw a cut on a 7-year-old's face.

Deputies continued to investigate the matter, and on Thursday Rush was arrested. Her children were placed into protective custody.

Rush's bond was set at $250.
