Johns Island Farmers Market offers education summer events

Posted: Updated:

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Johns Island Farmers Market is offering a little more than fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. Now it offers a little dish of education, too.

The new series is thanks in part to a $500 grant from AgSouth Farm Credit.

Throughout the summer, vendors will offer short educational talks on various topics, starting Saturday with local bee expert Larry Sexton.

Sexton had a beehive on display and demonstrated honey extraction.

Also kicking off the first week of the summer series, there was a check presentation with Drew McClam from AgSouth, live music from Ed and Gretchen Robinson, a bounce house, a food truck, and cornhole games.

John Davis also offered recipe cards for people looking for fresh ideas to go with ttheirlocal produce.
