Man leads SC police on 110 mph chase with 3 kids

Posted: Updated:

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) - Deputies say a 24-year-old South Carolina man led officers on a chase that reached 110 mph on Interstate 20 while three young children were in the car.

Sheriff Jim Matthews said Thursday that Darius Pollard crashed into a tractor trailer during the chase Wednesday afternoon. The children, ages 3, 2 and an infant weren't seriously injured.

Matthews says the Columbia man ran away from the crash without checking on the kids, but was arrested a short time later and charged with child endangerment and failure to stop for a blue light.

Matthews says deputies were trying to pull Pollard over because they clocked him going 90 mph on I-20 south of Camden.

Pollard remains in the Kershaw County jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
