COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Eight veterans from South Carolina are receiving the highest award given by France for their service during World War II.

The men will be given the Order of the Legion of Honor during a ceremony Friday morning at the Statehouse. The Consul General of France in Atlanta will present the awards, created by Napoleon in 1802.

The award is given for eminent military or civilian services rendered to the Republic of France.
