Posted: Updated:
Update:  According to the Cullman County Sheriff's Office:
Jay Maynor, the suspect taken in for questioning after a deadly shooting in Cullman Sunday evening will be charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, and a shooting into an occupied dwelling.

###

A deadly shooting is under investigation in Cullman County.

It happened Sunday at about 7:00 p.m. Sheriff deputies say a man shot at a person through the window of the Berlin Plaza Quick Stop off Highway 278. No one was hurt, and the suspect drove off on a motorcycle. While investigators were on the scene, they received another call about a shooting at a house down the street. When they arrived, they found Raymond Earl Brooks, 59, dead from a gunshot wound.
Jay Maynor, 41, was later taken into custody for questioning. Charges are expected to be filed Monday.

Sheriff Mike Rainey cannot confirm whether a 2002 sex abuse case has any connection to the shooting, but Brooks was a registered sex offender. Family members tell ABC 33/40 they believe there is a connection to the case.
