BANFF, AB, June 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Heather Conway, Executive-Vice President, CBC English Services announced today Sally Catto has been named General Manager of Programming for CBC Television. The announcement was made at the Banff World Media Festival. Catto's appointment is effective immediately.

An extensive international search was conducted over several months.   In making the announcement Conway commented, "The breadth of candidates we interviewed was most impressive but after a thorough search and careful consideration, I couldn't be more pleased to appoint Sally to the role.

Among her colleagues at CBC, our external partners, and within the production community, Sally is as respected as she is well liked. Her creative sensibilities are highly regarded and her strong business focus will undoubtedly serve her well in this new position."

Catto added, "I'm extremely honoured to be taking on this role and so fortunate to be working with such a talented group within the CBC. It's a pivotal time for CBC and I look forward, with my colleagues, to working closely with the high calibre of independent producers, writers and strong international partners to create exceptional content for Canadians across the country. "

Catto returned to CBC from the independent sector two years ago as Executive Director, Commissioned & Scripted Programming where she's been overseeing drama, comedy, children's and certain documentary programming.

Catto's history at CBC dates back to 2001 when she was Executive in Charge of Production, Drama before taking on subsequent positions as Creative Head, Drama and Executive Director, Arts & Entertainment.  During that period, she oversaw programming that included Intelligence, Being Erica, and Heartland.

Prior to her time at CBC, Catto was a literary agent for film and television & practiced law at both Stikeman Elliott & Goodmans.
