ATLANTA, June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 20 years after its founding, Global Atlanta, the only news source covering the city's rise as an international business center, has been honored with a national award for export service.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker presented Global Atlanta Publisher Phil Bolton and Editor Trevor Williams with the President's "E" Award for Export Service at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., May 28. The "E" Awards are the highest recognition any U.S. entity may receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
Global Atlanta was one of 10 "E" Award for Export Service winners nationally and joined a handful of news outlets among the 2,500 exporters and service providers that have received E Awards since 1962.
"Global Atlanta has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The 'E' Awards Committee was very impressed with Global Atlanta's vital role in supporting international trade in the Atlanta community," said Secretary Pritzker. "The company's work to develop the Africa Atlanta 2014 initiative was also particularly impressive. Global Atlanta's achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs."
Publisher, Founder and President Phil Bolton said Global Atlanta has been both a participant and observer in the development of Atlanta's export consciousness.
"When our company first launched, small- to medium-sized companies wondered why they should export when there was plenty of demand within U.S. borders. But today, as overseas opportunities are blooming, exports play an important role in the country's recovery. It's gratifying to be honored by the president and the commerce secretary for realizing the important role of exports early on."
Companies are nominated through the Commerce Department's U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service office network, located within its International Trade Administration, which has offices in 108 U.S. cities and 70-plus countries to help U.S. exporters.
A total of 65 U.S. companies received the President's "E" Award this year.
