Skull found at North Augusta recycling center

Posted: Updated:
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (AP) -- Police in North Augusta say they don't know if a crime was committed after a skull was found at a recycling center.

The Augusta Chronicle reports police were called Tuesday after an employee discovered what appeared to be an adult human skull on a conveyor belt.

North Augusta Department of Public Safety Lt. Tim Thornton says the skull appears to have been partially spray-painted green. Police say there are no signs of observable trauma, like bullet holes or fractures. The skull is clean, which police say means it likely has been separated from the body for a while.

Thornton says there's nothing suspicious except for the odd way the skull was discovered.

Anyone with information on how the skull got to the recycling center is asked to call police.
